Robson Gmoser 1970-2015

Robson was an amazing soul who left this world too soon. A passionate, well-known and well-loved guide in Western Canada, he followed in the footsteps of his father, legendary mountaineer Hans Gmoser.

Robson grew up in Harvie Heights, Alberta in a family of mountain adventurers. He began guiding hiking tours at Mount Assiniboine Lodge in 1985. In the mid 90's Robson was guiding for his father’s company Canadian Mountain Holidays in their heli ski program and ski touring program at Battle Abbey, a remote backcountry lodge in the Selkirk Mountains. Robson also pursued rock climbing. He was an Apprentice Rock Guide and offered guided rock climbs and climbing instruction.

Not only was he an accomplished mountain adventurer at a young age, he also became a sea kayaking guide. He led numerous trips on Canada’s West coast and around the world, from Greenland to Patagonia.

Since 1997, Robson had been guiding backpacking trips in the summer. This is how WildTrips got started.

Robson was a great person to be in the mountains with. He had years of experience, he was safe and best of all, he had a great sense of humor. He was an amazing husband to Olivia and father to Max. His laugh was contagious and still carries through in anyone who ever spent time with him… and at WildTrips, it’s our mission to keep his spirit alive.
